Red Dead Online will be a standalone game from December 1st onwards.

Updated: Jan 29, 2021

The multiplayer component of Red Dead Redemption II will be a stand-alone game beginning next month.

Developer Rockstar Games revealed that the Red Dead Online mode would be available for purchase on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on a stand-alone basis from 1 December. (The next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X will be playable through backward compatibility.)

To start with, the game will be relatively cheap: Rockstar will be offering RDO at a "introductory" price of $4.99. Starting February 15, 2021, the price tag will be $19.99.

You will also need to clear out some hard disc space to suit the game, which will hold up to 123GB of space. It will also provide an opportunity to buy the key storey campaign.

The news shouldn’t be too surprising, as Rockstar followed a similar strategy with the massively popular online offering for Grand Theft Auto V. GTA Online has been a huge success, and a standalone version is coming next year.
